The SAHFOS CPR survey is the longest and most geographically extensive marine biological survey in the world. The CPR survey has been in operation in the North Sea and North Atlantic since 1946 and has systematically sampled up to 500 planktonic taxa from the major regions of the North Atlantic at a monthly resolution. This dataset contains also CPR surveys in the Pacific and the South Atlantic.

The PIROP data were collected for Canadian seabird monitoring purposes, focussing on the Canadian Atlantic, but also on other areas relevant to Canadian birds such as waters off Peru, off West Africa and off Europe.

A requirement of the Water Framework Directive is that benthic macro-invertebrates must be sampled from coastal and transitional waters at least twice within a river basin cycle (6 years) in order to classify these waterbodies. Numerous samples will be taken from sites in matched habitats throughout the water body. Sampling and analysis is carried out according to established protocols. The Directive requires the sampling of nominated coastal and transitional waters for benthic macro-invertebrates. This includes the field sampling, processing and analysis of samples. In addition, grab samples have been taken on vessels of opportunity and are considered suitable to fulfill obligations under the WFD. For each grab sample collected this dataset contains: - lists and abundance of benthic species >1mm, -sediment particle size analysis (PSA), -Folk (1954) sediment classification, and an estimate of organic matter (LOI).

Phytoplankton functional diversity and spatio-temporal distribution at the meso-scale are studied in the frame of the A*MIDEX CHROME (Continuous High Resolution Observation of the Mediterranean, https://en-chrome.mio.univ-amu.fr/?page_id=42) project thanks to the combined installation of a Ferrybox system (belonging to the INSTM, Tunis) and a cytosense flow cytometer onboard the CTN’s ferry “Le Carthage”. Samples were collected during the cruises between Tunis-Marseille and Tunis-Genova from October 2016 to January 2017. This led to an mount of 80 transects and more than 7000 samples collected. Data analyses resolved the abundances of up to six phytoplankton functional groups based on size and pigment content.

  • This dataset is a compilation off all sea surface micro- and mesolitter data produced by Oceaneye between 2011 and 2020 during several volunteer monitoring expeditions with the use of manta nets. The dataset provides in-depth information such as station location, date, time, sampling distance and wind speed, but also number and mass of items for the different categories.
